What Carpet to Buy

The floor is the starting point of every room. If you are completely redecorating, it is a good idea to choose the carpet first before the paint and fabrics. It is far easier to match paint to carpet than vice versa.

Just like a kitchen, a quality carpet is an investment and one that will give years of pleasure. And the British make the best carpet in the world! From the White House to Hong Kong Airport and the QE2, when the best is needed, it is British, drawing on centuries of tradition and craftsmanship that results in us producing only the finest products.

We all, however, have different needs and also expectations of wear, comfort and appearance retention - not to mention budgets! Finding carpet to suit your needs is not as difficult as you might think - even if you are faced with a sea of similar products all making the same claims!

Aside from British, look for the Quality Mark. Any carpet displaying this mark has passed rigorous British and international product tests for luxury, comfort and wear which guarantees its suitability for your home. Endorsed and monitored by the Textile Institute, it is the only quality assurance initiative in the UK carpet industry. Look for the Quality Mark on products from Abingdon, Axminster, Brintons, Causeway, Cavalier, Pownall, Ryalux, Ulster, Victoria, Westex and Woodward Grosvenor. You really can believe what it says on the label!

Remember that carpet is like everything else - you get what you pay for! You should expect to pay at least £20m2 + underlay and fitting.
